Forum members go here for groovy ways to customise windows more!
Posted in the Observation Deck to get a little feedback....
Had a few people ask about the sizes, so here goes...
32x32 is the default size for icons in Win9x-XP (Vista is a bit different)
48x48 is 'large' icon is in Win9x-XP
XP supports up to 96x96 normally, 128x128 can be done with tweak utils and what not, these are 128x128! That's pretty big.
Vista will support up to 256x256 PNG Icons. (so should work with these)
If you are on WindowsXP and don't want to use 3rd party software you'll have a 32x32 desktop icon, not as pretty as it could be.
Open up regedit (start>run>regedit) go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics and look for Shell Icon Size on the right, this is set to 32 by default, up it to 48,64,96 or 128 to get bigger icons
This change will affect all icons, desktop and in My Computer/Windows Explorer and will only take affect after you restart.
Don't want to edit the registry? Try this...
 | | Steps for changing desktop icon size.
1. Right Click Desktop + Choose Properties
2. In the Properties Window click on the Appearance Tab at the top.
3. In the Appearance Window click on the button called Advanced
4. In the Advanced Appearance Window choose Item: from the drop down list and choose Icon and you can choose desired Icon size. By default many users will see 32 x 32 pixels but this can be changed to whatever you want. |
Converting these to normal Windows Icons (.ICO)??
I've found a nice simple way to do it!
 | | ConvertICO is a Free Online Converter - fast (you don't need to install the software and you don't need to register) and easy to use (you need only 3 clicks to convert the PNG or ICO file) - which allows you to convert PNG to ICO (Windows Vista compatible) and ICO to PNG format files. |

Like I said on AIM you're such a nerd. But those are really cool thingies you have there. Never seen anyone make little things like that before. You can make Icons out of anything?

I boosted my icon size to 128 I believe and I have gotten these like vertical yellow lines on the left and right side of the following icons: Backpacks, flag, Equip Term. I dunno if thats my laptop of what, but yeah, that and when they are being moved around ( i had to re-arrange them because of their size) Some left like ghost bits, part of the gauss barrel and the 150mm barrel from the vanny and the left wing of the ntu silo. just some findings I have for you in my "beta" testing... once again it could be my laptop because often when I am group selecting the bunch of icons I get the drag box outline sticking but, no big deal, minor annoyances
Edit: Changing the icon size to 96x see what that does =D And it does.....
fix the problem, no more vertical lines and no more ghost bits.. so there you go with XP to get minimal problems go with 96x as the highest.

There has to be another setting, like the spacing settings or something you need to edit as well then. If 96x96 works then go with that
Also you may need to increase your icon cache size, think there is a setting in TweakUI for that.
